Fringe & Fur

Happy Holidays fashionistas!! It's been a couple of weeks since I last posted and can YOU believe it's almost the NEW YEAR!!?? Helllllllo 2014, ready or not! It's been a busy December as I'm sure you know. Christmas parties, traveling, the holidays and spending time with the people we love. AWESOME.

The outfit I'm writing about is in NO WAY a holiday outfit and I apologize ahead of time for not being very "festive." This outfit is actually from a couple of weeks ago and I'm just now getting around to blog about it. Oooops :-)

The boots below I SCORED from my dear friend, Jackie. They are amaziiing: detailed with fur, studs and tassels. Not to mention THE MOST COMFORTABLE things EVER. I paired black leggings with a bodycon black tank then threw on my turquoise lace kimono from LOTUS. BAM.DONE. I'm not sure the exact "style" you would call this, BUT it's comfy, I felt "bohemian-ish" annnnnd going with that theme, I went makeup free ..well...except for lipstick. This is an example of "throwing" together an outfit and actually liking it. USUALLY doesn't happen that easy. Fringe & fur, one of may favorite combos.

PS- Enjoy your NYE and dress OUTRAGEOUS, whatever that may mean to you. I intend on reporting back..probably in SEQUINS. Have fun and be safe!

Don't forget to check out LOTUS online at www.lotuslook.com

Tim Burton

I woke up waaaay too early this morning ..especially for a Saturday ..especially when I COULD have slept in .. until 8:30am. When YOU have nothing else to do at 7am, it only makes sense to put on a full face of makeup ..NOT. BUUUUT it's exactly what I did. I played around in my kaboodle (yes I said kaboodle) and practiced with my MAC shadows, matte colors and tints. The end result was a SUPER dark matte eye ..which BASICALLY put together what my outfit NEEDED to be for the day. "All black everrrr'thing".

No surprise here, I went for my leather leggings. One of these days I'll stop talking about how EVERYONE needs a pair. THEY GO WITH EVERYTHING! I searched through hangers filled with black blouses, tanks, tees  AND then came to  da da da daaaaa my black&white skull blouse with gold button details. Where has this top been hiding?!? I've only worn it once before and that was at least a year ago. I LOVED it when I wore it, but it somehow managed to fly under my radar since. Dark eye, leather leggings and a SKULL blouse. YEP, this is how my day is looking. To finish off the "oh girl you know she bad" look, I chose my NEW black with gold chrome combat boots and distressed stone "caterpillar" ring. Helllllo Saturday, I'm coming for you.

STAR Ships are Meant to Flyyyyy

'Star ships are meant to flyyyy. Hands up & touch the sky. Let's do this one last timeee. Can't stop  ..we're higher than a motha-f*$@!#. '

Daaang, that's a feel good song & currently playing on Pandora as I try to find the right words for the outfit you are about to see. I'm stuck ..writers block maybe orrrr maybe it's the fact that my day at work (teaching) wasn't so awesome and I'm trying not to let the fact that I am the teacher, mother, nurse, custodian, care taker, mentor, friend, counselor, (everything else possible) to at least 24 kids take over my mind. Loooong day, but yes yes well worth it ...I know. MAYBE that's why I'm finding it hard to describe the outfit I'm posting about. Orrrr maybe the outfit is a LITTLE crazy .. out there .. thrown together, that I can't think of the right way to let you into my thoughts of how or why I put these pieces together.

Let's not waste anyones time here and get right into the pictures. I'll let you all take the lead here and interrupt this how you like. Mermaid, grunge, wacky ..you tell me. Just know that it is OKAY to mix prints, textures and colors. Throw together some different pieces and maybe you'll even surprise yourself. I know I did! TRY IT, sisters! Sorry, this is all I've got for tonight.

Tiger Lily

"Tiger Lily is the beautiful Indian princess in the Disney film Peter Pan. She mostly has her nose turned up in a snobbish manner, probably due to her being proud and brave rather than simply pampered."

I've been thinking a lot about how we as people change, how our styles change and what makes us ..well.. us. This quote has stuck with me ever since seeing it this past week on a friends Instagram. It reads, "When a woman says 'I have nothing to wear!', What she really means is, 'there is nothing here for who I am supposed to be today." I couldn't agree more. Soooo this morning when I woke up and got moving, I had this urge to play "dress-up" in one of my favorite character(s). Pocahontas and Tiger Lily came to mind, but I needed to make it look fashionable .. NOT Halloween-e.

If you haven't played "dress-up" in a while, I suggest you give it a try. It's FUN to go through your closet and mix-match items, re-discover old treasures, and re-vamp ones that need a little TLC. You may even find that you have WAYYYY more trendy pieces than you thought. IT'S TIME TO GET CREATIVE!

I need to give a shout-out to my sister, Heather, for assisting with todays outfit (which I have gotten sooo many compliments on already today). We paired an emerald Victorian dress with a brown over sized fur vest, camel colored booties, turquoise drop down necklace AND a tribal print headband. BOOM: Tiger Lily the updated version appropriate for REAL WORLD. My inner child at age 5 would be impressed. Happy Sunday fashionistas!

Mix-Match

Today was one of THOSE days where I wasn't feelin' clothes, a bra, makeup BLAH BLAH BLAH ... but sometimes it takes needing to get dressed to make you feel like your regular self. I was (and still am) in a wild clothing mood. I threw on some odd and I mean really ODD items before deciding on the one I am wearing in the pictures below. I was mixing and matching things I had never put together before. I NEED have to admit that most of the outfits .. well ..they were bad. I was getting crazy in my room while listening to "HeadBand" by B.o.B. I'm actually not 100% or even 85% sure on the outfit that "stuck", but I'm giving it a try for the evening.

I have these royal blue printed silk shorts, which my sister calls my pajamas ..they aren't pjs, but they could pass for it. A black sequin collar blouse with gold button detail on the cuffs and pointed-toe flats with gold studs. How many different prints/textures/patterns can I put together today? Well THREE to be exact. I do LOVE the way the color of the shorts combines with the mixed metals in the sequins. The flats are a bit dramatic, buuuuuut what was I going to pair with these short silk bottoms??? Pumps? Sick. Take this outfit for what it is ...MIX-MATCHED.

Oh and a special shout out to my hair stylist, Jimi, for styling my hair and giving me ONE less thing to focus on. For those of you who do not know, my name is Krista and I am ombre obsessed.

Mad Hatter

If you know me, then you ALREADY know I have a major minor obsession with Alice in Wonderland. I love the fantasy, the style and everything about WONDERLAND. Somewhere it's real. This post was inspired by my new found (within the past few months) LOVE of hats and hair accessories. Not only do hats cover my usually UN-washed & sometimes shamefully UN-styled hair (my stylist is rolling his eyes as we speak .. Jimi) "SORRY I'm not sorry" :-).

In my pursuit to be the REAL Alice I have found a couple of ama-ziiiing head pieces perfect for tea with Rabbit or the Mad Hatter and croquet with the Queen. I've scored two awesome "skater" (named by society) or as I call them "slouchy" caps, one over-sized velvet riding hat which I've deemed the ultimate Nicole Richie swag and an aggressive black floral arrangement made into a headband. I've worn all of these in the last 6 days if that gives you an inclination into how much I AM REALLY digggggin' headwear.

When wearing headbands, I've found it best (with my hair in particular) to rock a high top knot. With my slouchy caps, I like to make sure my hair is SUPER straight and pulled to the front on both sides. The over-sized riding hat can be styled a couple ways. I prefer my hair UN-straightened and full of dry shampoo and hair spray (the messier the better) and pulled all to one side. I've also styled it with my hair straight and pulled to the front. I tried it with a side braid and I ended up looking like an equestrian .. sooo if that's what you're going for then that works too! I would LOVE to find the perfect headband that has the mini hat attached with a bird cage. I don't know the outfit I want with it, but stay tuned...it may appear sooner rather than later!

I'll leave you with this quote from the Tim Burton version of Alice in Wonderland, "What a regrettably large head you have. I would very much like to hat it. I used to hat The White Queen, you know. Her head was so small" -Mad Hatter
PS- "We're ALL mad here."
