Sassy & Sweet

COUNTDOWN: 5 days until NEW YORK !!!

Sorry for the above countdown, I had NEEDED to type it as I screamed it out loud. It's real and it's happening in 5 days. I.CAN.NOT.WAIT. Lotus ladies + me + fashion shows + buying adventures=PURE HAPPINESS. Okaaaay now on to why I, and hopefully YOU, are here. Outfit explorations :-).

A couple weeks ago I was on "the hunt" for a cream lace or crochet tank/blouse. It was consuming my mind for a few days prior after reading the August issue of Nylon. They had dedicated an entire section on how to pair "girly" tops with "bad-ass" bottoms. The perfect combo of "Sassy & Sweet." There was a BEAUTIFUL white crochet tank with almost 3D designs that made the top look like a piece of artwork. Of course it was $590 ...for a tank .... notice the long pause? Soooooo I was set on finding an "almost" replica.

It was actually MUCH easier than I expected to find the outfit I had already created in my mind. I scored a great off-white crochet tank with a sheer back from Forever 21 (where you CAN ALWAYS find a top) for $28. Even if I only wear it once, I got my money worth because I am able to make this post and smile. The top is just see thru enough to wear a cute eyelet bra underneath & it peeks through, but not sheer enough to make you feel like you're only wearing your eyelet bra. I paired the top with my "go to" faux leather pants. It was great. My leather and a sweetie-pie top. Thanks Nylon mag for the idea. I added my own personal touch by lacing up my cream sneaker wedges instead of going for a classic black pump or adorned ballerina flat. I call sneaker wedges "Moon Shoes" and I know most of you know what I'm referencing. For jewels, I kept it simple with my oversized two tone MK watch and one gold spike bracelet.

Wala "Sassy & Sweet" my version. Happy Sunday babydolls!

Craaaazy for Aztec

Trend Alert: Aztec. I'm sure you ALL have seen one of the biggest trends of the spring/summer, AZTEC print. From necklaces to tanks, crazy shorts to decorative pillows, Aztec/Tribal print has blown UPPPP! I'm guilty of SEARCHING (and I mean REALLY searching) for this HOT print and it's hard, really hard. Simple things that most women don't notice like, "Is the line jagged? Are the colors a mix of neutrals and the right amount of neon? Is the print a mix of shapes and lines?" All very GREAT good questions when picking the right Aztec pieces for you ME. I can spend hours on the Internet searching site after site because in my mind I've already designed EXACTLY what I'm looking for. Daaaang I wish I could close my eyes, snap my fingers and the perfect piece in my mind appears in my closet. ANYWAAAYS, I can't, so I'll stop.

I've collected a couple great (well in my mind) Aztec pieces, which include a GIANT tribal necklace, one Mink Pink tank & two beautiful Maxi dresses. I think I'm pretty set on this trend. I mean, I don't need to go OVERBOARD ...hahaha riiight. So, below is the outfit I wore to my happy place this past week, Lotus. It's nothing out of the ordinary, but I "edged" it up a bit with fo-LEATHER (my favorite piece of clothing) mini shorts and black studded sneaker wedges. It's simple, it's trendy and I think I'm in LOVE.

Bag Lady

"When you find THE bag hold on tight. Styles may change, but your initial feelings will remain" -LC.

Hello world & happy Monday! I'm sure you ALL had a weekend of relaxation and unwinding; at least I hope you did. I'm smiling while writing this because my dear friend, Danielle, messaged me this morning saying, "I missed my blog post today"! Obviously THIS made my week day and then I quickly remembered YIKES it's been a week since my last post. The weeks REALLY do fly by when it's sweet summer time and you are a TEACHER. SOOOO here I am, enjoying this beautiful day, doing what I love: fashion. Thanks for the push, Dani.

Over the weekend I "cleaned out" (basically reorganized my bag bin) my bin of purses/clutches/shoulder bags/cross bodies/satchels, etc. I have ALOT of bags .. bags & shoes, are my weakness. I mean you get it right?!? Shoes ALWAYS fit and well...so do bags. I can have a "fat" day and still never have to worry about my shoes or bags looking right. NEVER. You know what I'm saying. As I was going through my bag bin, I discovered I have some really awesome bags. I had forgotten some of the treasures I had stored away because I am guilty of using a "favorite" bag over and over and over and over. I actually can't remember the last time I switched out my enormous tote for a spike clutch or sequin satchel. I actually might go swap out my bag right after this post. MOTIVATION. I've been using this black leather Badgley Mischka tote for uhhhh almost 9 months now. YIKES. OBVIOUSLY I'm in LOVE love with this bag, but it is time for a switch. Did I just talk myself and you into changing BAGS today?!? Hope so! I was told, "An outfit is never complete without the perfect accessory, a bag." Oh how true this really is.

Lazy Sunday

Do you sometimes ever have one of those days where you don't feel like putting on makeup, getting dressed to actually be seen in public?!? If you say no, then I HAVE to assume your lying to yourself me. Welllll today is one of those days for me. It's a lazy Sunday. No sunshine, dark clouds are hovering above and I'm waiting for the sound of rain to hit the windows. On the BRIGHT side, I am working my usual Sunday shift at Lotus, which I LOVE, so it makes this gloomy day A-OKAY. Right? I can't possibly stay in a lazy frame of mind with ALL of this beauty surrounding me.

However, being that I must need to be dressed like I have some sort of style, I came up with a comfy, lazy-ish outfit appropriate enough for giving advice to other fashionable women while I'm here at my happy place. Cue another piece of advice confession: NO ONE wants fashion advice from someone who doesn't look like they have any style themselves. That being said, I threw together the outfit pictured below to accommodate my state of mind, while looking like "comfy-grunge". I consider "comfy-grunge" my go to look when I don't feel like putting in much effort, while still managing a trendy outfit with minimal effort. If you don't believe me, open up an issue of the latest Glamour magazine. MINIMAL EFFORT, and still oh so cute.

Staying true to my mind set today, this blog must will be shorter than normal. My "Lazy Sunday" outfit of choice are distressed skinny jeans, oversized sleevless-side slit hood (say that 5 times fast), neon eyelet lace bra, gold ballerina flats and a MK watch with stackable bracelets. NO MAKEUP, NO PROBLEM. Happy Sunday readers! !
