STAR Ships are Meant to Flyyyyy

'Star ships are meant to flyyyy. Hands up & touch the sky. Let's do this one last timeee. Can't stop  ..we're higher than a motha-f*$@!#. '

Daaang, that's a feel good song & currently playing on Pandora as I try to find the right words for the outfit you are about to see. I'm stuck ..writers block maybe orrrr maybe it's the fact that my day at work (teaching) wasn't so awesome and I'm trying not to let the fact that I am the teacher, mother, nurse, custodian, care taker, mentor, friend, counselor, (everything else possible) to at least 24 kids take over my mind. Loooong day, but yes yes well worth it ...I know. MAYBE that's why I'm finding it hard to describe the outfit I'm posting about. Orrrr maybe the outfit is a LITTLE crazy .. out there .. thrown together, that I can't think of the right way to let you into my thoughts of how or why I put these pieces together.

Let's not waste anyones time here and get right into the pictures. I'll let you all take the lead here and interrupt this how you like. Mermaid, grunge, wacky ..you tell me. Just know that it is OKAY to mix prints, textures and colors. Throw together some different pieces and maybe you'll even surprise yourself. I know I did! TRY IT, sisters! Sorry, this is all I've got for tonight.

Tiger Lily

"Tiger Lily is the beautiful Indian princess in the Disney film Peter Pan. She mostly has her nose turned up in a snobbish manner, probably due to her being proud and brave rather than simply pampered."

I've been thinking a lot about how we as people change, how our styles change and what makes us ..well.. us. This quote has stuck with me ever since seeing it this past week on a friends Instagram. It reads, "When a woman says 'I have nothing to wear!', What she really means is, 'there is nothing here for who I am supposed to be today." I couldn't agree more. Soooo this morning when I woke up and got moving, I had this urge to play "dress-up" in one of my favorite character(s). Pocahontas and Tiger Lily came to mind, but I needed to make it look fashionable .. NOT Halloween-e.

If you haven't played "dress-up" in a while, I suggest you give it a try. It's FUN to go through your closet and mix-match items, re-discover old treasures, and re-vamp ones that need a little TLC. You may even find that you have WAYYYY more trendy pieces than you thought. IT'S TIME TO GET CREATIVE!

I need to give a shout-out to my sister, Heather, for assisting with todays outfit (which I have gotten sooo many compliments on already today). We paired an emerald Victorian dress with a brown over sized fur vest, camel colored booties, turquoise drop down necklace AND a tribal print headband. BOOM: Tiger Lily the updated version appropriate for REAL WORLD. My inner child at age 5 would be impressed. Happy Sunday fashionistas!

Mix-Match

Today was one of THOSE days where I wasn't feelin' clothes, a bra, makeup BLAH BLAH BLAH ... but sometimes it takes needing to get dressed to make you feel like your regular self. I was (and still am) in a wild clothing mood. I threw on some odd and I mean really ODD items before deciding on the one I am wearing in the pictures below. I was mixing and matching things I had never put together before. I NEED have to admit that most of the outfits .. well ..they were bad. I was getting crazy in my room while listening to "HeadBand" by B.o.B. I'm actually not 100% or even 85% sure on the outfit that "stuck", but I'm giving it a try for the evening.

I have these royal blue printed silk shorts, which my sister calls my pajamas ..they aren't pjs, but they could pass for it. A black sequin collar blouse with gold button detail on the cuffs and pointed-toe flats with gold studs. How many different prints/textures/patterns can I put together today? Well THREE to be exact. I do LOVE the way the color of the shorts combines with the mixed metals in the sequins. The flats are a bit dramatic, buuuuuut what was I going to pair with these short silk bottoms??? Pumps? Sick. Take this outfit for what it is ...MIX-MATCHED.

Oh and a special shout out to my hair stylist, Jimi, for styling my hair and giving me ONE less thing to focus on. For those of you who do not know, my name is Krista and I am ombre obsessed.
